Final cut pro certification9/1/2023 I basically just felt being 'certified' would give me some extra credentials when advertising tuition services.įrom your experience, do you think it makes a difference? Is it a worthwhile way into tutoring? I appreciate there are probably other, harder exams for professional FCP tutors. Maybe doing some out of hours work teaching younger people how to cut in FCP, or earning some extra money with 1 on 1 lessons. The reason I wanted to take it is because I've considered the possibility of getting into some kind of tutoring for FCP. Unfortunately Apple took a while to actually release the 10.3 exam. The exam actually came free with a course I took when 10.3 was released. I'm employed as an editor and we use FCP for all our projects. As I mentioned I am experienced with FCP. I'm glad you brought up the value of the certification because it was something I was unsure about. I didn't know it was so closely tied into the exam though, thanks for that insight. I've actually ordered that book, not just for the exam but I figured it would be useful to have around. Thanks for your reply, I'm glad you could share your experience. Move on to macProVideo or Ripple Training after that. Just my honest, humble opinion.Īll that said, the book by itself is a great start for a new user. That'll get you way further than this certification will. If you want work, learn FCPX, PPro, Avid MC, shoot projects on your own with your phone, edit them, do free work do weddings, anything, put a demo reel together, learn to do good job interviews, and work your ass off. Apple authorized training programs have all but died. I find Apple's training program to have degraded too far for salvaging, and the authorized training to be less than a shadow of what we had before. To be honest, in today's climate, not sure how much value that certification carries any more.įull disclosure I've been an Apple Certified Training (even a Master Trainer for Final Cut Studio) since 2005, and this year I've refused to take the test to continue being certified for 10.3. Having a college degree doesn't make employers magically line up to hire you, you use that degree and other experience to get a job. Why do you want it? If you're new to the industry, or in school, and want to get a job some day doing this, it "may" help, IF you use it to your advantage. NEXT comes the discussion about the value of that certification. Again, the test is on how well you know that book, period. Like I said, do the book, possibly twice. I've seen a lot of folks take the 3 day Apple authorized training and take the test right away and fail. I've been teaching these books and procuring these tests since 2005. The graphics are taken directly from the book, and use the explanations and terminology form that book. Multiple choice, but you will have questions that present a graphic, and you have to answer based on that graphic. Nothing else prepares you, because the exam uses the exact wording form that book, which various on occasion from what we end users normally use. That book is the exam, the exam is that book, for real. If you know that book, you'll pass the exam. The test is on how well you know that book, period. If you fail, you have to pay for a whole new exam. Do this book cover to cover TWICE before taking the exam. The test is based on this book, all questions come directly from this book.
